Dexterity

The Dexterity Attribute measures a character’s general physical prowess and control over her own body, including agility, speed, and manual deftness. It indicates a character’s physical hand-eye coordination, bodily gracefulness, and overall quickness, as well as indicating the character’s ability to manipulate objects with control. Also included under Dexterity’s heading reflexes, and generally they’re graceful and light on their feet to boot. Dexterity influences accuracy in combat, as well as the ability to do precision work with one’s hands. It aids any task that calls for motor control and precision, from performing card tricks to shaking booty to handling the wheels feeding knuckle sandwiches to those who sass you to dodging the incoming to swinging the large cutlery (Dexterity helps to land the punch or helps the chopping connect; Strength determines how much it hurts the fellow whose nose got in the way and how much the carving stings the punchee), and such reflex tasks like steering a vehicle, riding a horse, dodging an attack or firing weapons, and exhibiting the social graces necessary for a proper gentleman.

Dexterity determines whether a blow connects whereas Strength determines how much the blow injures. A high Dexterity comes in handy for acrobatics, picking locks, wriggling through tight spaces, and sneaking around: an Operative performing an extraction mission will find it very useful. A high Dexterity is common and vital among conjurers, dancers, gymnasts, pickpockets, martial artists, and street survivors. High-Dexterity individuals seem poised and flexible even at rest, whereas People with low Dexterity folks are clumsy and ungraceful, and trip – figuratively and literally – over their own feet. If you want to do blackflips and cartwheels – or plan to have your character fight like Chow Yun-Fat, Jackie Chan your way around town, or try those kewl moves you saw in The Matrix – you’d better go with a high Dexterity (and some help from the script, and a much splashier wardrobe). Dexterity is a physical Attribute.
